The UK-Irish Boyband "One Direction" In Talks With Nickelodeon For Their Own Nickelodeon TV Show

According to this Nickelodeon News article on the official website of the British weekly entertainment magazine "Now Magazine", NowMagazine.co.uk, a Nickelodeon source has told "Now Magazine" that Nickelodeon are currently in talks with the UK-Irish Boyband "One Direction", which consists of band members Niall Horan, 18, Zayn Malik, 19, Louis Tomlinson, 20, Liam Payne, 18, and Harry Styles, 18, to give them their own Nickelodeon show after the band filmed an appearance for the brand new episode of the hit Nickelodeon live action sitcom "iCarly" called "iGot Jungle Worms" in January 2012, where they also performed their song (single) "What Makes You Beautiful" for the Nickelodeon TV show.

This wouldn't be the first time Nickelodeon has given a British boyband their own show, in the mid-noughties (mid-2000's), Nickelodeon UK made a one off special called "Kenzie's Blazin' Summer", which followed one-off Nickelodeon UK presenter James Victor MacKenzie, also known as Kenzie (he co-presented the Nickelodeon UK programming stunt "Control Freaks" with the then-occasional Nickelodeon UK presenter and British pop star Anna Kumble, also known as Lolly), of the 10-piece UK pop-rap band "Blazin' Squad" and his "Blazin' Squad" bandmates.

From Now Magazine:
One Direction a big hit in US and Nickelodean love the boys

The channel was impressed with the band's appearance on iCarly

One Direction spent a week in the US

One Direction filmed a guest spot on US Nickelodeon show iCarly last week and really impressed TV bosses.

Simon Cowell is reportedly keen to get Niall Horan, 18, Zayn Malik, 19, Louis Tomlinson, 20, Liam Payne, 18, and Harry Styles, 18, to perform on the US X Factor and the children's channel want to turn them into small screen stars.

'Simon has vowed to launch them on the US X Factor, while Nickelodeon are in talks to give them their own show,' says a source.

[...]

'The US response was overwhelming,' the source tells the Daily Star Sunday.

'No one expected them to be as popular at this stage.'

The release of One Direction's debut album has now been brought forward by a week.

One Direction Movie Could Make the Boy Band Even Bigger

One Direction could follow in the footsteps of Justin Bieber by getting their own movie!

The guys have stormed the U.S. charts and are working on winning American girls' hearts by starring on iCarly and touring with Big Time Rush. Since the guys have gotten in so good with Nickelodeon, there has been talk that they might land their own Nick TV show, but some Directioners aren't thrilled about this idea.

After all, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, and Louis Tomlinson would have to majorly tone down their cheekiness on a kid-friendly show. And unlike BTR, they weren't a modern-day version of The Monkees that started their career on TV, so it might be very difficult for the guys to make the move to doing television, especially since it would likely involve a big move to the States. So a movie might be more of a step in the right direction for One Direction.

According to Sugarscape, Harry Styles said that the band has already gotten a few movie offers. They might be trying to stage the next British invasion in the States, but they probably won't emulate the Beatles by showing off their acting skills in a mockumentary comedy like A Hard Day's Night - instead they'd like to do a documentary similar to Justin Bieber's Never Say Never.

A documentary is probably an excellent idea for the band. In the U.K., girls have followed the guys long enough to get to know them extremely well, but girls in other parts of the world are just getting to know them. In addition to showcasing the band's creation on The X Factor and documenting some of their performances, the movie could focus on some fun trivia about the guys, including the creation of Larry Stylinson (which refers to the bromance between Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson); why the guys have gotten pelted with carrots (because Louis once said he likes girls that eat them); and who Kevin the pigeon is (see the video below). The guys could also document some of the crazy gifts they've received, like giant bras that get thrown at them while they're on stage and sanitary napkins (Harry once received one with his name on it).

The One Direction guys all have a great sense of humor, so their documentary might even end up being better than Justin Bieber's.

So what do you think - should they try to introduce themselves to more fans through a fun documentary film?

One Direction To Get US Television Series?

X-Factor boyband One Direction had been absolutely tearing up the pop scene in America as they toured the states with Yankee counterparts Big Time Rush – with one Canadian newspaper even reporting that Harry Styles and co. were outshining the US group. Now, it seems that they’ve impressed the country so much that they may be in the run in for their own US TV show – with one source revealing that it was ‘definitely being talked about’.

The report, which features in the Daily Star, comes after the news that the group were confirmed to host the Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards later this month, as well as their performance on Nickelodeon show iCarly and The Today Show. With all their television appearances, American fans must be getting accustomed to their faces – and could soon be seeing them a whole lot more often.

A source apparently working with a US television station told the paper: “We’ll be having meetings with One Direction when they come back for the awards. A series is definitely being talked about.”

If you can’t get enough of the world-beating boyband, make sure you don’t miss them on their up and coming UK tour.
